I decided I would go to college to become a Philosophy Major because I thought, “If I were a Philosophy Major, I would be studying the meaning of life.” Before you know it, I ended up in the Religious Studies Department. I was like, “I’ll put these books under my pillow at night.” I was like, “Somehow, I belong with the people who wrote these books. That was when it all started opening up for me that there was a homecoming that was possible for me in mystical literature. I looked around and said, “What’s going on around here? Who are these people? How did I get here? What’s happening?” It was when I started reading books, Demian and Siddhartha, those were books by Herman Hesse and then books by Alan Watts also. I felt like I was somehow dropped out of the sky from another planet into my family. My childhood was mostly characterized by me feeling alienated to be truthful and alone. What was it about your experiences when you were young that created that dream within you? Businesses are powerful vehicles of service. We’re going to get into what happened after that. I know from doing my homework on you that you were only 22, it was 1985, you had a dream, a tape recorder, and then the rest was history.
